Quiet Chapters Book Club

A social reading space, without the pressure of a traditional book club
Love reading but not sure a traditional book club is for you?
Quiet Chapters is a relaxed social reading space where you can bring whatever you're currently reading, enjoy some quiet reading time and connect with other people who love books.
There is no set book, no required reading and absolutely no pressure to finish anything before you come.
You can read. You can chat. You can do a bit of both.
Just bring your book and come as you are.
What to expect
Quiet Chapters meets fortnightly in Ainsdale and is designed to be relaxed, welcoming and low pressure.
At each session you can:
- Bring whatever book you're currently reading.
- Spend time reading alongside other people.
- Chat about books, life or anything else that comes up.
- Meet people with a shared interest.
- Use our quieter space if you need some time away from the group.
- Join in as much or as little as feels comfortable.
There are no reading lists, deadlines or group discussions you have to prepare for.
Some people spend most of the session reading. Others barely open their book because they're too busy chatting.
Both are completely fine.
Who is it for?
Quiet Chapters is for adults who enjoy reading and would like an easy, low pressure way to connect with other people.
You don't need to be a particular type of reader. Whether you read every day, haven't picked up a book for months, love romance, thrillers, fantasy, non fiction or something completely different, you're welcome.
You also don't need to be confident walking into social spaces.
In fact, Quiet Chapters was created with exactly that feeling in mind.
Come alone or come with somebody you know. Bring a physical book, Kindle, audiobook or whatever works for you.
If you enjoy books and would like to find your people, there's a place for you here.
More than a book club
Quiet Chapters has become a community.
Members have described it as a safe, inclusive space where they can be themselves, make friendships and feel part of something without the pressure that can sometimes come with socialising.
As one member put it:
“It makes me feel part of a community for something I tend to enjoy alone.”
Another told us:
“It's nice to have a low pressure space to build friendships and connections.”
Alongside our fortnightly sessions, we also create other opportunities to come together through activities such as Picnic & Prose, author events and our wider Quiet Chapters community.
The books give us something in common. The connections grow from there.

We'd love to welcome you to a future session.

There is no need to worry about coming alone, knowing anybody already or having the right book. The hardest part can be walking through the door for the first time, and we understand that.

Who We Work With
Who we work with matters.
At FamilyKind, we are careful about the organisations we choose to work alongside. We look for people and organisations with a strong track record of supporting families, reducing social isolation, strengthening communities or improving experiences for children and families with SEND.
We want every collaboration to reflect the same values that shape our own work: trust, inclusion, understanding and a genuine commitment to making a difference.
